The annual Miss Stuart W. Cramer High School Pageant was held on Saturday, March 7th in the L. Reeves McGlohon Auditorium where eleven young women competed for the title of Miss Stuart W. Cramer 2020 and a $2,500.00 college scholarship. “A Grand Affair with Twenties Flare” was the theme for this year’s pageant that culminated with the crowning of the fifth Miss Stuart W. Cramer, Masie Lee. Claire Brown was the first runner-up and the second runner-up was Kathryn Cupp. Miss Congeniality was selected by the contestants and was awarded to Lesley Valdez.

Masie is the 16 year old daughter of Bow and Angie Lee from Belmont and is a junior at Stuart Cramer. Masie performed a lyrical dance for the talent portion of the competition to Leona Lewis’ cover of “A Moment Like This” choreographed by Heather Maree Betenbaugh at Dance Specialties.  She has been a varsity cheerleader for three years and currently serves as a captain for this year’s squad. She also serves as a Junior Class Representative for Student Council, secretary of the Beta Club and is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Bible Club and HOSA Club. Masie was voted by her dance peers and instructors as Dance Specialties’ Student of the Year for 2019 and she enjoys assisting in the studio as a dance teacher and mentor for younger dancers. After graduating from high school, Masie plans to major in elementary education and continue to make a difference in the lives of children as a kindergarten teacher.

Claire Brown, the pageant’s first runner-up, is a junior at SCHS and the daughter of Gus and Heather Brown from Mount Holly. For the talent competition, Claire presented a vocal rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.

Kathryn Cupp, second runner-up at the pageant, is a junior at SCHS and the daughter of John and Leah Cupp of Cramerton. Kathryn sang “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog for her talent performance.

The other beautiful and talented students that participated in the fifth annual event are Stephanie Combs, Campbell Foulk, Allison Glass, Caroline Jessen, Anna King, Kendall Moore, and Madison Rhyne. All eleven contestants competed for a panel of five judges in four categories of competition; private interview, fashion wear, talent, and evening wear.

The pageant’s roaring twenties inspired show included performances by the reigning Miss Stuart Cramer, Shaylynn Adams; Alex Manley, a senior chorus student at Stuart Cramer; and the Stuart Cramer High School Varsity Men’s Chorus under the direction of Ms. Bethany Jennings. Stuart W. Cramer teachers, Mr. James Brown and Ms. Grace Lyles, co-hosted the show. Mrs. Carolina Jessen has been the chair of the Miss Stuart W. Cramer Committee since its inception in 2016 when the first Miss Stuart W. Cramer was crowned. Mrs. Meredith McMillan is the Co-Chair of the committee and also the pageant choreographer.

Masie Lee said, “I am so honored to represent the best high school and a wonderful group of peers. My sister was crowned the very first Miss Stuart W. Cramer and I am excited to follow in her footsteps and continue the legacy that she started.”

The young ladies that have had the honor of wearing the Miss Stuart W. Cramer crown are Mattie Lee (2016), Maddie Wilson (2017), Paige Valego (2018), Shaylynn Adams (2019), and Masie Lee (2020).
